ABSTRACT

A preliminary analysis shows that there were 253 535 fires attended by fire brigades in the United Kingdom in 1971. Fatal casualties numbered 782, of which three were fire brigade personnel, the number of non-fatal casualties was 4883. The estimated direct financial loss due to fire was £128.7 M, the highest ever recorded figure.
