ABSTRACT
An analytical treatment is given of the sensitivity of an interferometric fire detector using laser beams. It is shown that the system would probably give false alarms due to building distortions. An alternative system is discussed, depending on the bending of laser beams in the space above a fire due to changes in the refractive index of the atmosphere.
