A study has been made of the extinction of magnesium fires using trimethoxyboroxine and a mixture of chlorobromomethane and mineral oil. It has been shown that both agents are capable of reducing the white fire of burning magnesium vapour to a glowing red, after which it is possible to apply water to complete the extinction.
