Chemical and mechanical type foam extinguishers were compared using four different liquid fuels and six sizes of tray fires. Three different foam liquids were used in the mechanical type extinguishers. Mechanical type extinguishers gave quicker fire control and extinction than did the chemical type. Using the mechanical type extinguishers significant differences in control and extinction times were obtained when different foam liquids were used.
